Quick Overview:

Jesus plus nothing. 100% natural. No additives. It's the truth you may never hear in church. The Naked Gospel is a chapter-by-chapter assault on the churchy jargon and double talk of our day. It puts forth a message that is simple but life-changing. With a fresh take on Scripture and unapologetic style, The Naked Gospel will challenge you to re-examine everything you thought you already knew.
I found myself lying on the floor of my apartment, sobbing for hours on end: “God, I’m doing everything I’m supposed to do, and I still don’t feel closer to you. In fact, I feel worse than ever! How could this have gone wrong? I can’t see any way out. Help me.” As a university student, Andrew Farley found himself physically and emotionally addicted to street evangelism and Bible study. Yet despite his fervid behavior, he knew something was missing. That something was an understanding of the gospel that is stripped of the compromises and clichés of the modern church. The Naked Gospel finds friends among those who are burned out on experience-chasing, ceremonialism, or legalism. It attacks churchy jargon and powerless ideas and puts forth a message that is simple but life-changing. With a fresh take on Scripture and unapologetic style, The Naked Gospel will challenge you and stir you to re-examine everything you thought you already knew.

You had me until the chapter "cheating on Jesus". I understand what you are trying to achieve by the purpose of this book, or I should say what God is asking you to achieve for his purpose. I know many "Christians" that live through the law today. I also know many "Christians" that continue to sin with no remorse, or regret, and go on merrily saying God continues to bless them in many ways. When I went to the cross I went as a sinner committing multitudes of sins most of my life, and his grace lifted every bit of my guilt and shame as if a huge weight had been lifted off of me, or the bars of my prison had been opened. My journey with him was on the opposite side of the coin than yours. I never felt I was worth him seeing me, or talking to me from all the evil I was doing, and thinking that is how God made me. You were thinking all your good was good enough, and that too is as dangerous mind set and it proved to bring you to a place of despair as my way of thinking did for me. When I sin of course I feel a conviction from the Holy Spirit, and I am thankful for it. His conviction, or counse, is the same thing. When he counsels you there should be a conviction. Did your Father ever counsel you without you being convicted? God's sorrow or conviction always leads us to repentance or being molded more into his image. His conviction is a good instruction for a child that wants to be taught. To many "Christians" today are continuing to live in sin and not changing because they believe they do not have to deny themselves, take up their cross, and follow him daily. He died once that is true, but we have to die every day, as Paul says, because we have a sinful nature trying continually come back alive or take us away from God through our rights to ourselves. We have to continually fight against anything that tries to make us have faith in anyone or anything else above him. There is always evil trying to cut in on what he has given us daily. When I sin now, I still have his peace and forgiveness, you are right I do not have to ask for it, he knows my heart personally but I do say, "Forgive me Father for not thinking of you as I should of". I say this because I love him, not because I am performing for him. If I speak wrong to my husband or ignore him for any reason, I am going to say "forgive me for not thinking of you as I should have" not because of some duty, but because that is what we do in a loving relationship because we want to! . I understand what you are saying about us having to perform for God, but I did not receive ANY conviction, remorse, rebuke, for our sins at all in this book, as if God does not care if we continue in them or not. That my friend is how a lot of "Christians" I am around are thinking today and I am afraid your book will only give their false teachings more truth. His peace, and love always, Vicki Gann, Love4Love Ministry (Posted on 3/7/2016)
