Time Is Running Out In Two Realities.

In one world, a lethal virus threatens to destroy all life as scientists and governments scramble to find an antidote. In the other, a forbidden love could forever destroy the ragtag resistance known as The Circle.

Thomas can bridge both worlds, but he is quickly realizing that he may not be able to save either.

In this mind-bending adventure, Thomas must find a way to rewrite history as he navigates a whirlwind of emotions and events surrounding a pending apocalypse.

The fate of two worlds comes down to one man's choice--and it is a most unlikely choice indeed. Life. Death. Love. Nothing is as it seems. Yet all will forever be transformed by the decisions of one man in the final hours of the Great Pursuit.

Genre: Fantasy

About: Again, it should be noted that this is a continuation of the series of reviews on Ted Dekker’s Circle Series and should be viewed as such rather than as an individual review. In light of this, everything that must be stated in the “About” section of this review can be found in the two preceding reviews for the Circle Series.

Likes: Once more, I give Mr. Dekker a tip of the hat for a thrilling ride. What he lacked in POV consistency in previous novels was mostly corrected in this book, with only a few exceptions. Overall, I saw a great improvement in this area. What dislikes I have about this will be included in the following section. Dekker’s themes were better in this book than in perhaps any of the others in the series. The love and passion that he weaves throughout White was very powerful and moving. His plot reached a conclusion well, closing off enough plot threads to make it feel final, but leaving enough to set up the eventual novel that he would add to the series. Overall, the plot development finished well. Once again, his setting was very good as well as his continuation of symbolism. Another job well done, Mr. Dekker.

Dislikes: The characters. As I said, he improved the POV issue, but was not spotless. This makes me think that what improvement he showed was really not planned, but rather just happened that way. If it had been planned, perhaps he would not have slipped up in that area. Two particular characters—Kara and Monique—blended into very similar characters, so much so that they were nearly indistinguishable at many parts. In this book, the formerly nonviolent characters discover that there is no way to win without violence, and this leads to several very graphic descriptions of fights. Additionally, there are some graphic executions and abuses that are recorded by Dekker.

Summary: “Time is running out in two realities. In one world a lethal virus threatens to destroy all life as scientists and governments scramble to find an antidote. In the other, a forbidden love could forever destroy the ragtag resistance known as The Circle. Thomas can bridge both worlds, but he is quickly realizing that he may be able to save neither. In the surprising conclusion of the Circle trilogy. Thomas must find a way to rewrite history as he navigates a whirlwind of emotions and events surrounding a pending apocalypse. The fate of two worlds comes down to one man’s choice—and it is a most unlikely choice indeed. Life. Death. Love. Nothing is as it seems. Yet all will forever be transformed by the decisions of one man in the final hours of the Great Pursuit.” – taken from the back cover of the WestBow Press edition
