About the Contributor(s) Jan & Mike Berenstain

Stan and Jan Berenstain introduced the first Berenstain Bear books in 1962. Mike Berenstain grew up watching his parents work together to write about and draw these lovable bears. Eventually he started drawing and writing about them too.  Though Stan died in 2005, and Jan in 2012, Mike continues to create the delightful Bear adventures from the family home and studio in Pennsylvania, in an area that looks much like the sunny dirt road deep in Bear Country.

There is something in us all that loves the Bear Family. I think it is because we all remember them growing up, or remember reading them to our own small children. So with this new series, we are getting to share the Bear Family with another generation. And the best part is, Mike Berenstain is sharing his stories of the Bear Family in a faith-based series. This little board book Bible storybook is one example from the Living Lights Berenstain book series. A durable little board book that can handle the slobber and roughness of babies and toddlers, this little book is a treasure. The stories are very accurate and follow the Bible stories very closely, the artwork is primo, and there is nothing to dislike about this book. 5 stars from this reviewer. We're big on the bears around here. Make that the Berenstain Bears! I enjoyed raising my kids on their delightful stories and now it is such a delight to share them with my grandkids. The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones is based on the original The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible but it is trimmed down to fit the attention span of littler ones.

The adorable creatures from Bear Country act out ten different stories from the Old and New Testament. It begins with Creation and then moves on to Noah building the ark. After that is David meeting Goliath in an epic showdown. Then we venture with Daniel into the lion's den. Our stories continue on into the New Testament with the birth of Christ. The next story is from Luke chapter 10 and teaches us about being a good neighbor. From there we fast forward to Palm Sunday and go with Jesus as He makes His triumphal entry into Jerusalem where He will later be crucified. But fear not because the last story reminds us that He Is Risen!

I like the padded board book style for those chubby little hands of my grands. It makes the book so much more durable and allows them to pour over the contents again and again without worrying about damaging the pages. It is also compact enough to take on a car trip or tuck in a purse for a waiting room distraction. If you have little ones this would be the perfect addition for their growing library.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review. (Posted on 8/27/2015)

I have adored The Berenstain Bears since I was a little girl so it always makes their books extra special for me to share with my kids. The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones is created for 2 - 4 year olds so I read it with my almost two year old son Jax.

This is a board book which is always good for the little hands that tend to tear delicate pages. Jax likes to hold the book in his cute, chubby little hands and turn the pages himself.

This isn't typical of the Berenstain Bears books because while it shows the bears as the characters in the illustrations, they are appearing as characters in the Bible, not as themselves. This is basically a Bible storybook but everyone in it is a Bear!

This isn't the entire Bible but some of the main stories that kids usually learn first as little ones such as the story of creation, the birth of Jesus and his Resurrection.

I like that the illustrations are just like the regular Berenstain Bear books so people who love them and are fans will appreciate the illustrations. However, they are not those typical of Bible storybooks. As I mentioned, they are all bears as the characters and they are kind of light and muted in color whereas most storybooks are brighter.

As a fan of the bears, I loved sharing The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones with Jax and that he is now a fan of the bears and has started pulling them off the shelf to read! (Posted on 8/26/2015)

“The Berenstain Bears’ Storybook Bible for Little Ones” was sent to me by Zonderkids, a division of Zondervan Publishing, free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.
This little Bible storybook was written by Jan and Mike Berenstain. Mike also created the precious pictures throughout. This book contains eight of the stories from the Bible, written to thrill and amuse the littlest toddler. There’s “Creation”, “Noah Builds an Ark for God”, “David Meets Goliath”, “Daniel in the Lion’s Den”, “The Birth of Jesus”, “The Good Neighbor”, “Jesus in Jerusalem”, and “He is Risen”. Of course, Mike drew all of the characters as the beloved Berenstain Bears, that we all remember and adore.
This is a board book that is appropriate for tiny hands, and has bright, colorful pictures for tiny eyes. I’d recommend it!!

The Berenstain Bears are pure classic television at it's best. They have been around for as long as I can remember. I use to watch them as a child and my children now have that same privilege. I like them because they teach very good character lessons that are still valid in today's world. The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Toddlers is especially created for the 4-6 age group.

It is a padded board book that contains short summaries of most of the most popular Bible stories. It has good sturdy pages perfect for little hands and it teaches them the most important things in life. Such as loving God, loving others, and trusting in Him. Our children learn throughout the pages in this precious book how others honored God and how they can too!

I like to discover new books for my son, so I decided to go for it when Book Look Bloggers offered The Berenstain Bears Storybook Bible for Little Ones for its bloggers to review. I grew up on the Berenstain Bears myself, so there is an element of bookish country girl nostalgia involved for me, and I also like the idea that I can share spiritual values with my son as I read. As moms, we love to multitask (sharing spiritual values + reading at the same time!). For a Christian family, this type of multitasking is a win-win. When your child hears a lesson taught in Sunday School, the child can think back to the story in the Berenstain Bears book. Learning is about making connections, so the more connections your child can make with spiritual lessons, the more likely your child will be to remember those lessons.

My Overall Review: The book covers major Bible stories in language that is easy to understand. It includes creation, Noah's ark, David and Goliath, Daniel in the Lion's Den, the birth of Jesus, the parable of the Good Samaritan, Jesus in Jerusalem, and the resurrection of Jesus. The lessons in this book are an excellent foundation for teaching Christian faith. Even at a young age, a child can understand that, as the book says, "God made everything!" I thought it was an excellent choice for the writers to use the Berenstain Bears in the story illustrations but not to actually include the bears in the written text itself. That way the child does not have to try to mentally switch back and forth between fictional bears and the Bible truths. Parents could actually show young children the bears and say the bears are cartoon characters, and then say the Bible stories that are being read are true. The book is just the right size for little hands to hold (about 5x7).
