Quick Overview:

In the fourth book of the Faithgirlz Samantha Sanderson series, Sam’s friend Tam Lee is missing. Not just for an hour or two after school but for several days. Sam uncovers clues law enforcement, who want to believe he has run away from home, has not—but she’s just a nosy middle school student on the school newspaper staff.

Sam Sanderson is an independent, resourceful, high-tech cheerleader. She dreams of becoming an award-winning journalist like her mother, so she’s always looking for articles to publish in her middle-school paper (where she secretly hopes to become chief editor). With a police officer for a father, Sam is in no short supply of writing material.

In the fourth book of the Faithgirlz Samantha Sanderson series, Sam’s friend Tam Lee is missing. As the days pass, all clues seem to point to something sinister in Sam’s opinion. Sam must decide whether to do what everyone wants her to and let law enforcement continue to work as though Tam is a run-away. Or should Sam follow her heart and keep poking around looking for more clues?

The Samantha Sanderson series is about an ordinary girl with extraordinary dreams. Each book touches on a crime straight from headlines, from bomb threats to bullying, while following Samantha and her friends as they navigate middle-school and questions of faith.

If you have a tween then make sure you grab this book to grab their attention. This book is full of mystery and would be a great book to also read as your tween reads to discuss some of the real life obstacles found in this book. I think once your tween has finished reading this book having a discussion on dreams and talents would be in order as this book really shares the dreams of main character Samantha. There are lots of good questions that I think would be great to process together with your tween kids.

Thanks Zondervan for sending me this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not paid for this review and all opinions expressed are 100% mine. (Posted on 3/9/2016)

I would recommend this series for your older tween. It’s full of mystery and intrigue. Even though it is the fourth book in the series it can be read as a stand alone.

I like that it actually deals with real life and news that affects all of our lives. It deals with how what’s going on in the world affects even our children. I would recommend this series for 11 and up.

I received a copy in exchange for my honest opinion. (Posted on 2/29/2016)

Without a Trace by Robin Caroll is the fourth book in the Samantha Sanderson series.
(There are three previously available titles in the series: At The Movies, On The Scene, and Off The Record.)

Samantha (Sam) Sanderson is the daughter of a journalist and a police officer. Sam wants to be a journalist like her mom and is off to a good start because she is on the staff of the school newspaper. In each book in the series, some sort of mystery arises and she tries to solve it with the help of her best friend, Makayla. (Her dad is usually involved in some way, too.) Sam likes to write articles for the school newspaper about the mystery at hand.

Because Without a Trace is a "tween" book, I am going to hand this over to my daughter for the review (*spoilers included*):

"Sam" Sanderson is at it again, this time searching for a boy named Tam Lee. The police think he ran away, but Sam doesn't. The police get more and more worried because Tam has been gone for 3 days. Sam soon finds that Tam was doing a report on missing kids, and deduces that Tam was trying to prove that the first 3 hours are most important when a child goes missing. Sam gathers more and more information and helps her father with the case. Suddenly, Tam's parents get a call from Tam, and Sam quickly goes to investigate. They soon find Tam is in a panic room, where he had hidden, but then got trapped in.

I asked my daughter a few questions about Without a Trace - here they are with her responses:

Was the book interesting?
Yes.
Do you plan to read it again?
Yes.
What did you like about this book?
The mystery.
What (if anything) did you NOT like about this book?
It was kind of scary for me.
Would you recommend this book to others your age?
Yes.
What ages do you think would enjoy this book best?
Probably 8 to 12.
Any other comments about this book?
No.
Out of a total of 5 possible stars, what would you rate this book?
5 stars.

My daughter has enjoyed the Samantha Sanderson series, and the book Without a Trace is another good choice for your tween reader.

“Without A Trace” was sent to me by Zonderkidz – a division of Zondervan Publishing – free of charge, in exchange for my honest opinion and review of it. It is a Faithgirlz book.
Robin Carroll has written a series about Samantha Sanderson, a kid reporter. I’ve reviewed a couple of them in the past…”At the Movies” and “On the Scene”. Of course, these are Christian fiction books, and…Robin has done it again!
Samantha is a middle school girl trying desperately to become editor of her school newspaper. She wants to be a crack reporter like her mom. Her dad is a detective, so she often finds herself “drawn to” his investigations. In this story, Samantha’s friend, Tam, disappears and becomes one of her stories. She won’t stop until she finds out what has happened to him. As always, you will have to read the book to find out what happens. I highly recommend that you do.
This book is appropriate for young teens on up…SO GOOD!!
