What happens on Christmas Eve while children sleep? "Their stockings are filled up with candy and toys, and happy surprises for good girls and boys." A kindhearted man hid a gift in a stocking, long ago. He did it to "remind everyone of the Gift that God sent." Christmas stockings help us remember God's love.

Crystal Bowman loves writing books for kids. Her books come in all shapes and sizes and many of them have become best sellers. Whether her stories are written in playful rhythm and rhyme, or short sentences for beginning readers, she tries to make them so enjoyable that kids will want to read them over and over again. "But the most important part," she says, "is to teach children that God loves them and cares about them very much."
You can find Claudine diving the oceans with Technicolor fish, camel riding in the Sahara, trekking in a jungle populated with wild monkeys, or exploring the African savanna in search of huge elephants. Although adventurous, she sometimes gets scared when coming upon a giant spider or other scary beasts. At that time she heads back to the comfort of her studio, where she draws all the wonderful things she saw and dreams of her next visit to faraway lands.

When choosing books for this endeavor I like to find ones that are not only entertaining but educational as well. My Christmas Stocking tells the history of the hanging and filling of stockings in a charming sing song type of verse.
We have a nine month old that hasn't quite figured out that books are not to be eaten so this particular book was chosen with him in mind. It is a board book and while I don't think it would withstand unlimited amounts of drool it is sturdy enough for me to have time to remove it from his mouth before serious damage can be done.
I really like the wonderful story and verses it contains, but the images by Claudine Gevry shouldn't be overlooked. She did a beautiful job of capturing the wonder and delight of the season.
If you have a little one in your household this would make a great addition to your collection of Christmas stories. They will learn all about the tradition of the Christmas stocking while being entertained with words and illustrations.
I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review. (Posted on 12/17/2015)

The story is about Saint Nicholas and the origins of the Christmas stockings. The author emphasizes our Gift from God (our Savior, Jesus). The illustrations are cute and colorful and each image covers a two-page spread.
All in all, I think My Christmas Stocking is a cute book with an overall good message and is one that I will enjoy reading with little ones.

“My Christmas Stocking” was written by Crystal Bowman, with the illustrations done by Claudine Gevry. This book is a Christian children’s picture book. It is a board book, so you don’t have to worry about little ones with sticky fingers :-D (I like that!)
“My Christmas Stocking” is about how the tradition of the Christmas stocking began. He told of how Saint Nicholas wanted to show God’s love and how He sent us the gift of His Son. Sometimes he would hide the gifts in a child’s socks that were hanging by their fireplaces (probably to dry). This book uses rhythm and rhyme, so children will enjoy listening to it.
I’d recommend this for young children and those teaching or reading to them.

My Christmas Stocking is a great addition to our collection! I like to have different books for all three of my kids since they are so far apart in age. The older two are six and seven but my youngest is just one so this board book is great for him. I like board books because little hands can turn the pages easily and without tearing them.
This book is shaped like a stocking which just makes it extra cute. The words are lyrical and rhyming which is great for toddlers. It helps them to pay attention and even remember the words and start to recite them before they can read.
This tells the story of the real Saint Nicholas and how the Christmas tradition of the stocking came to me. It also talks about the real meaning of Christmas and God's love. I like the balance of both. We are Christians and celebrate Jesus's birth but we also like to enjoy the fun of Santa. This does a great job of balancing two traditions.
The illustrations are just as magical as the words and compliment them perfectly. Since Jax is so young he is really drawn to the pictures and likes to point things out in them.
I have a Christmas tradition of wrapping up 24 Christmas books and having them take turns opening one every night and reading them a Christmas story before bed. They will be delighted that My Christmas Stocking is now a part of that! (Posted on 10/8/2015)
