We have beginning readers in our family so we are always on the hunt for new easy to read books to encourage their newly acquired skills. The I Can Read! line from Zonderkidz has many great selections in the different reading levels. Right now we are on level 2 which is designed for developing readers that need a little bit of help.

Heroes of the Bible Treasury is a compilation of six I Can Read! books from the level 2 group. The six stories include: The story of Noah and the ark. Joseph and his dreams. Moses leading his people to the promised land. The story of the prophet Elijah. The bravery of Queen Esther in the face of evil. And finally the miraculous conversion and ministry of Paul.

We have been using the Adventure Bible for Early Readers for our Bible time. Heroes of the Bible Treasury uses the same art work so it is very familiar to our kids. I think that helps them commit to memory the content of the story. Another thing that I like about this book is that it gives my kids a beginning feel of chapter books. It makes me smile to see how excited they are to use a bookmark. I'm thrilled with the sense of accomplishment the kids get as they make their way through this book. They feel like they are reading a big kid book, but it is still at their reading level so they are also encouraged in their reading journey.

I received a copy of this book to facilitate my review. (Posted on 7/18/2016)

Bringing together six engaging stories into one excellent collection, "Heroes of the Bible Treasury" is a valuable addition to the "I Can Read" series of books. From the story of Queen Esther to Joseph, to Noah to Elijah, to Moses and Paul, there is something here for everyone. Each story is written at level 2 of the I Can Read stage of reading, and so introduces longer sentences and language play for your young reader. Each story begins with a pertinent verse and ends with a character snapshot of the main character of the story along with a "Did you Know?" section providing more information about Bible times. The stories are based on the "Adventure Bible" text and do an excellent job at bringing each story to vivid life.

My son, who just finished grade 1, was able to read through each story with minimal assistance, and he loved pouring over the colourful pictures that simply exploded with action! Probably his favourite story in the collection was the one of Moses leading the people out of Egypt after the plagues descend on the country. However, he really did enjoy each and every addition in this book, because while I've had to do a lot of convincing to get him to read other books, I had no problem getting him to sit down and read each of these as he enjoyed the stories so much. Each story is full of adventure, and showcases God's amazing power to act on behalf of his people. I am confident that we will be reading through this collection again and again as time goes on. As a parent, I love the great value you get in this book, as the book is sturdy and well put together, and because there are 6 stories you feel like you are definitely getting what you paid for. I am always on the lookout for good books to help my son grow in his reading, and I continue to be impressed by Zonderkidz products such as this one!

Not only will this book help your children continue to develop their reading skills, they will learn Biblical truths and be entertained, all at the same time! My son and I award this book a high rating of 5 out of 5 stars.

There are several books in the I Can Read! / Adventure Bible series, and Heroes of the Bible Treasury and Great Stories of the Bible are two new hardcover compilation books. Our family does not own the Adventure Bible, NIV or the Adventure Bible for Early Readers, so I cannot compare these books to those (to see if the content is duplicated). We do, however, own both the Adventure Bible for Toddlers and the Adventure Bible Storybook, and I can tell you that the wording and illustrations are not duplicated across these three editions. The books in the I Can Read! / Adventure Bible series are worded with simpler phrasing and shorter sentences than you will find in the Adventure Bible Storybook.

Heroes of the Bible Treasury has 6 books bound together in 1 hardcover.

The 6 books in Heroes of the Bible Treasury are:
- Noah's Voyage
- Joseph the Dreamer
- Moses Leads the People
- Elijah, God's Mighty Prophet
- Brave Queen Esther
- Paul Meets Jesus

The I Can Read! / Adventure Bible series are categorized as reading level 2 ("Reading with Help") and the stories do not feel "choppy" like you might find in some learn-to-read books. In these 6-in-1 compilation books, with a retail price under $12 total (that's under $2 per book!), I find these books to be a great value.

The Adventure Bible is sure coming out with new creative ways to share great Bible Teachings. I love this 6 in 1 book with heroes in the Bible. This is a level 2 I Can Read book which means it has engaging stories, longer sentences, and language play for developing readers, and my kids got excited as they felt it was like a chapter book!

The pictures fill the space on the page and keep younger readers engaged as they practice their reading skills.

After each story there is one more page that goes more into detail about the Hero. It includes a Bible verse and a fun "Did you know" section.

Your kids will love to read these stories in a picture book format! Make sure you take time to discuss the lessons in each story as they can create great family discussions! (Posted on 4/27/2016)

If you are a fan of the Adventure Bible series, then you are going to love the new addition, Heroes of the Bible Treasury.
This level 2 Adventure Bible is a six book treasury that's designed for newly independent readers and is based on the Adventure Bible. The stories you'll find in this collection are:
• Noah's Voyage
• Joseph the Dreamer
• Moses Leads the People
• Ruth and Naomi
• Brave Queen Esther
As you can see from the above list, this collection includes some of the great heroes from Bible times that are truly remarkable.
The brightly colored illustrations are filled with so much detail.

At the beginning of each story, you'll find a Bible verse. Then at the end of each story, there is a page where it has People in the Bible. For Noah's Voyage, it talks more about Noah and then has a Did you know? section

"Heroes of the Bible" contains 6 books in 1. Each of these books is available as stand alone books as well. The books included in this treasury are:
Noah's Voyage
Joseph the Dreamer
Moses Leads the People
Elijah, God's Mighty Prophet
Brave Queen Esther
Paul Meets Jesus
Noah's Voyage:
This book tells the story of Noah. I was glad that it told how God brought the animals to the ark since that is what it says in the Bible. One thing I wondered about, though, was that it said that after the animals and Noah and his family were on the ark "God closed the window tight". In the Bible, it mentions that God closed the door. The illustrations were beautiful and reminded me of colored pencil pictures. Many of the pages are completely covered with color making the book visually appealing. There was one picture I didn't like as it shows that suddenly the whole side of the ark is covered in windows and the animals have their heads sticking out. This is more the modern rendition of the ark and I didn't like seeing it in the book that followed the Bible otherwise. At the end of the book is a "People in Bible Times" section that tells a little bit more about Noah and a "Did You Know?" section that tells about the size of the ark.

Joseph the Dreamer:
This book follows the Biblical account of Joseph. It tells how he got the coat of many colors, told his brothers about his dream, was sold into slavery in Egypt, and eventually was instrumental in saving a lot of people's lives with the saving of the grain from the plentiful years. It gives a very abreviated version of Joseph's time in slavery. In fact, it skips right over it. It says Joseph was sold to a rich man and the rich man put him in jail, almost as if he went straight into prison. It also says that Joseph was the youngest, when Benjamin was the youngest brother. The end of the book has a "People in Bible Times" about Joseph and Jacob and "Life in Bible Times" about the coat of many colors.

Moses Leads the People:
This book tells the story of Moses from the burning bush to the Egyptians drowning in the Red Sea. It does not spend much time on the plagues, just listing them in order. It does tell more about the 10th plague and how the Israelites obeyed God and were not affected by it. The book shows God's protection of his chosen people in the wilderness. It did not make it very clear that Moses was also an Israelite. It just says he knew them as he had lived in Egypt. The "People in Bible Times" at the back of the book does say he was a Hebrew, but the story itself is confusing on that score. It also says that Moses packed up his family and brother and went to Egypt. The Bible did say that Aaron was coming to meet Moses, but before that, I'm pretty sure he was still living in Egypt like the rest of the Israelites. The book also has a "Words to Treasure" section in the back.

Elijah, God's Mighty Prophet:
This book tells the story of Elijah from when he told Ahab that it wouldn't rain through the showdown between the prophets of Baal and Elijah on Mount Carmel. The book does not make it clear that God sent Elijah to the widow woman with the oil and flour. It makes it seem like he was just out for a walk one day and came across her. I liked the detail it gave to the encounter on Mount Carmel and God's showing that He was the true God. The back of the book has a "People in Bible Times" about Elijah and a "Life in Bible Times" about what a prophet was.

Brave Queen Esther:
This book tells the story of Esther. It followed the Biblical story but left out some of the aspects of the story such as why King Xerxes was looking for a new queen. It also makes it seem that Esther was the only girl brought to the palace. It also did not say why Esther was in danger if she went to the King. When we read the story, I talked about these portions of the story that the book did not cover. The illustrations were beautiful and reminded me of colored pencil pictures. At the end of the book is a "People of the Bible" section that tells a little bit more about Esther and Mordecai and a "Did You Know?" section that tells about the festival of Purim.

Paul Meets Jesus:
In this book, it starts with Saul and his hatred of Christians and throwing them in prison. Then Saul encounters Jesus on the road to Damascus, is converted and changes his name to Paul. The book also tells a little about Paul's life after his conversion. The pictures are nice, although a little more muted than some of the other books in this series. The back of the book has "People in Bible Times" about Saul/Paul and "Did You Know" about Paul praying.

I like having books that I can let my children read and know that it is teaching truth. It is a Level 2 reader which stands for "Reading with Help-high interest stories for developing readers". Many of the pages are completely covered with color making the book visually appealing. Even though I had previously reviewed "Noah's Voyage" and "Brave Queen Esther", it is nice to have the books all together in one volume. My son loves to read these stories. The addition of a table of contents would make this book even better so you could find the individual stories better.

I received a free copy of this book to review. All thoughts and opinions are my own and no other compensation was received.

David Miles is a great illustrator and I'm glad that Zondervan uses his illustrations. They are always concise and absolutely perfect. These level 2 readers are perfect for beginners that still need some adult help, ages 4-8.

“I Can Read! Adventure Bible – Heroes of the Bible Treasury” was sent to me by Zonderkidz – a division of Zondervan Publishing – free of charge, in exchange for my honest review.
This book contains six of the stories from the Adventure Bible, written for Level Two readers – those who read, but with a little help. The pictures were done by David Miles.
In this book we have, “Noah’s Voyage”, “Joseph the Dreamer”, “Moses Leads the People”, “Elijah, God’s Mighty Prophet”, “Brave Queen Esther”, and “Paul Meets Jesus”.
Each of the stories are written with large letters and contain many beautiful pictures. And, each one ends with “People in Bible Times”, which has a couple of the characters from the story and a “Did You Know?” section.
I really like this series of books because it prepares the early reader to understand and enjoy the Word of God.
I do recommend it.
