The story is about Henry Bear and his wonderful travels across this great nation. The first book, God Bless America, gives an overview of his travels. The opening lines set the stage for this great adventure:
"As the golden sun rises and birds chirp outside,
Henry leaps out of bed, his eyes open wide.
There's no time to waste--today's a big day.
This bear's off to see the grand USA!"
And with that the adventure begins. With rhyming verse you follow Henry's adventures through New York, South Dakota, Florida, Texas, California, Washington DC, and then back home again. (I know, his route doesn't make sense, but it is fun!) The story concludes with these appropriate words:
"Now home, all unpacked, he gets ready for bed.
Henry folds his paws. 'Thank you, God,' Henry said,
'For the mountains and trees, for freedom so true.
God Bless America, the red, white, and blue."
Even if you don't have a Henry in your midst this would be a wonderful edition to your child's library. Summer seems to be a time when we are all especially patriotic. This delightful book and the others that go with it will help you start a conversation with your little one about how blessed we are to live in this great country. (Posted on 6/21/2016)

In God Bless America, Henry the bear takes a trip across the USA. He travels to New York, South Dakota, Florida, Texas, California, and Washington DC before heading home.
In each of the three books (God Bless America, God Bless Texas, and God Bless Florida), the first four pages share the same wording (with only the location description changed). The illustrations on the first four pages are very similar as well, with a few changes to reflect the location(s) of his trip. Again the last four pages of each of the three books are worded and illustrated very much the same. In God Bless America, a page or two from both God Bless Texas and God Bless Florida are copied into the main body of the book.
Although I don't think I would pay to purchase more than one of these books (because there is so much overlap with about half of the content being repeated), I do think that they are cute and I really like that Henry the bear ends his trip(s) by praying and thanking God for his fun vacations. I say that...but if one came out about my family's home state I sure would love to own it.

We just received some of the Land that I Love books that explores our country. What a perfect introduction to geography for toddlers! The first book we read God Bless America explores some of the landmarks in our country.
The book is written in rhyme which is always great for toddlers. I like that after I've read it a few times he starts to say the ending words with me that rhyme because it's helped him to memorize them.
In this book we meet Henry, a bear who is going to go on a little tour of the United States! I actually had fun with this one because I have been to a lot of these places so it was like talking a walk down memory lane for me! Since I had visited many, I was able to elaborate more on some historic details so it was a great little history lesson as well!
Now the practical side of me didn't like that Henry the bear was able to travel all around the United States in a car in a day! My toddler didn't think about how that's not possible but as he's older, it could be confusing. Time and distance are not concepts they understand right now but I don't like him thinking that it's possible to get to New York by car in less than a day. That's just my type A personality with logic and reasoning coming through.
The illustrations are wonderful and seemingly accurate with their depictions of famous landmarks like the Statue of Liberty and the National Mall. God Bless America is a great little history lesson and introduction to many of America's landmarks for toddlers! (Posted on 5/24/2016)

As Henry leaves each destination he buys souvenirs as a reminder of the fascination trip he took and the things he learned. Great gift for the upcoming Fourth of July holiday!
