Quick Overview:

Christmas Love Letters from God, written by Glenys Nellist and illustrated by Rachel Clowes, is a whimsical collection of seven beloved Bible stories that focus on the birth of Jesus and include love letters from God written especially for the young reader.
OR

Written for children ages four to eight, Christmas Love Letters from God cleverly combines both prose and poetry as the story of Jesus’ birth unfolds. The book includes seven stories, beginning with Isaiah’s prophecy and ending with the visit of the wise men. Following each story, the child will find his or her own letter from God, folded into a small envelope attached to the page. Each letter begins with a space in which to write the child’s name, so each one can be specially addressed to the child.

Written as if God is speaking, each personalized message gives the young reader a sense of wonder as they discover anew the Christmas holiday and the birth of Jesus. A very special Bible verse, entitled God’s Perfect Promise, also accompanies each story and letter as God’s personal words of love, promise, and hope.

Christmas Love Letters from God is another new edition to our family's 25 days of Christmas books collection. I am especially excited about this one because I love Glenys Nellist's writing and particularly her other Love Letters from God books. The sparkle in my grands eyes when they read a personalized letter from God is absolutely priceless.

The story of Christ's birth is told through seven different sections and they begin with the prophesy in Isaiah. After we hear from Isaiah we switch to Mary and her visit from the angel. Glenys' version of the Magnificat is beautiful. Next is Joseph and his dream. And then the couple are off on their trip to Bethlehem. The story of Christ's birth is told in a way that will stick with you for a long time. Then we get the account of the shepherds and finally the wise men.

While this book isn't probably for the littlest ones on their own. (There are flaps for each of the letters that little hands may tear.) It is sure to be a delight for the whole family year after year. We're in the process of replacing some of our oldest Christmas board books and I am absolutely thrilled with this one. Rachel Clowes' art work and Glenys Nellist's words combine to tell the Christmas story accurately yet uniquely. I'm sure that your family will come to love it as much as ours has.

I was provided a copy of this book to facilitate my review. (Posted on 11/10/2016)

I think the vote in my house is that Christmas is our favorite holiday. It is our favorite for many reasons. We love to spend time doing all our traditions together at Christmas and one of our traditions is reading Christmas books as well as reading about the birth of Jesus from the Bible. Christmas Love Letters Bible Stories is a great book for my four and eight year old boys. We enjoy that the book goes through all the different pieces of the biblical story one by one, from the prophecy, Mary, Joseph, the journey to Bethlehem, the birth of Jesus, the Shepherds and then the Wiremen.

There is a special note at the end of each short story that is a Love Letter from God. The author, Glenys Nellist, writes these letters of course, but really they help apply how this is a story that shows how God loved then and still loves us today. These letters are really special and help you understand God’s loving plan behind the birth of Jesus for all the characters involved in the story all the way to us.

I really like the one to after the story about Joseph. It says something about how God is thankful that Joseph said yes to being the earthly father for Jesus and that when God is tugging at your heart, do not be afraid to say yes also and he will be there for us too. This book helps us see how personal this story is to us. We really adore this book!

I've read several of Glenys Nellist's books for children and can say this is the best one so far. There is so much to this lovely book. Seven stories are laid out with scripture, one of Glenys's beautiful poems, a letter from God, and a little scripture tucked into the illustration. I could easily see this becoming a tradition to read the week before Christmas, sharing one story a night and writing a letter to God on Christmas Eve or Christmas day. I love that she begins the stories with the prophet Isaiah. She handles the stories of Mary and Joseph with grace and has the wise men visit when Jesus is a bit older. To top off the excellent storytelling, Rachel Clowes' illustrations are fabulous. She uses some interesting techniques and adds in a few trinkets here and there that would be fun for a child to search and find. If you love sharing the Christmas story with children or would just enjoy a beautiful book for the holiday, buy Christmas Love Letters from God. I received this book for free from Zonderkidz. To go along with the author's already awesome series, Love Letters from God, she has released a Christmas version just in time for the holidays. Not only is it the best holiday book for little hands and ages 4-8, it is also a lift the flap book which adds to the excitement.

It is very important for our children to know why there is a Christmas and where it came from. It is very important to know that God sent His son in the form of a baby to save us from our sin. The Christmas Love Letters from God are a very encouraging breath we need during the holidays. They give our children a break from the holiday chaos and bring them to a peaceful center of learning more about this Savior that we all so desperately need.

The Christmas season is the perfect time to just "be". It is a great time to take it all in and enjoy the holiday season with your children. This is the perfect book to do just that.

**Disclosure** This book was sent to me free of charge for my honest review from the author. (Posted on 10/4/2016)

“Christmas Love Letters from God – Bible Stories” was sent to me by Zonderkidz - a division of Zondervan Publishing – free of charge, in exchange for my honest and not coerced review.
“Christmas Love Letters” is a Christian fiction children’s picture book, written by Glenys Nellist. The precious pictures were created by Rachel Clowes.
I this storybook, we see seven stories surrounding our Savior’s birth. We have the prophecy of the birth from Isaiah, through to the wise men’s visit. Each story tells what happens and has a little note from the main character/s. There is also a verse for each one, called “God’s Perfect Promise”. And then, a 3-D card “from God”.
There is only one possible problem that I foresee…I’m concerned that a child might have trouble reading the font that has been chosen for the post card, “from God”.
I still love this book and do recommend it for young readers, and those who read to them.
